Bad Axe, Michigan — On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, a Huron County jury convicted Andrew Wilber, born in 1993, of Disturbing the Peace, following a jury trial in the 73B District Court.

The conviction arose from an incident that occurred in Bad Axe at the Sweet Fire Tobacco Shop. Evidence presented at trial showed that the defendant entered the business and was asked to provide identification for a purchase. The defendant became upset and caused a disturbance inside the store, which escalated as he was exiting the business.

The case was investigated by Officer Kyle Bischer of the Bad Axe Police Department. The defendant was arraigned on the charge on July 10, 2025.

The Jury Trial

The case was tried before the Honorable Julienne M. Ferris. The People were represented by Huron County Prosecuting Attorney Timothy J. Rutkowski. The defendant did not testify at trial.

After hearing the evidence, a six-person jury comprised of two women and four men deliberated for approximately 15 minutes before returning a unanimous verdict of guilty.

Sentencing is scheduled for January 29, 2026, at 11:30 a.m.

“This case was handled thoroughly and professionally,” said Prosecutor Timothy J. Rutkowski. “I appreciate the work of Officer Kyle Bischer and the Bad Axe Police Department in conducting a careful investigation and presenting the matter properly for review by the jury.”

The Huron County Prosecutor’s Office remains committed to the fair and impartial enforcement of Michigan law and recognizes the service of local law enforcement and jurors in carrying out the justice process.
