Huron County Prosecutor’s Office Announces Extradition of Jeremy Lee Tonn

by Huron County Prosecutors Office / Tuesday, 23 December 2025 / Published in Crimes Against a Person, News, Traffic Safety

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Huron County Prosecuting Attorney Timothy J. Rutkowski, (989) 269-9255

The Huron County Prosecutor’s Office announced today that Jeremy Lee Tonn has been returned to Michigan following extradition proceedings from the State of Wisconsin.

On June 25, 2025, deputies with the Huron County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported injury traffic crash in Chandler Township, Huron County, involving a motorcycle and a Dodge Charger. Upon arrival, deputies located a three-wheel Harley-Davidson motorcycle that had been struck and forced off the roadway into a field. Two individuals riding the motorcycle sustained serious injuries and required medical treatment.

The driver of the Dodge Charger left the scene of the crash without stopping or reporting the incident. Through witness statements, physical evidence at the scene, and subsequent investigation, deputies identified Jeremy Lee Tonn as the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash.

Investigators later located the Dodge Charger, which displayed damage consistent with striking the motorcycle. Mr. Tonn was subsequently located at a local hospital, where evidence indicated that alcohol consumption was a factor. A search warrant was obtained as part of the investigation.

Authorization of Charges and Huron County Extradition

As a result of the investigation, Mr. Tonn was charged in Huron County with multiple felony offenses, including Operating While Intoxicated Causing Serious Injury, Operating While License Suspended, Revoked, or Denied Causing Serious Injury, and Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Serious Impairment or Death.

After charges were authorized, Mr. Tonn was located in Ashland County, Wisconsin.

The Huron County Prosecutor’s Office worked with the Michigan Governor’s Office, the Michigan Attorney General’s Office, and officials in the State of Wisconsin to complete the formal extradition process. A Governor’s Requisition was issued by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and a corresponding Governor’s Warrant was issued by Governor Tony Evers of Wisconsin.

Mr. Tonn has now been returned to Michigan and will proceed through the criminal justice process in Huron County.

The Huron County Prosecutor’s Office thanks the Huron County Sheriff’s Office, the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, and the Governor’s Offices of Michigan and Wisconsin for their cooperation and assistance in this matter.
